| Frontier-Silicon releases DAB/FM/Wi-Fi radio chipset26th January 2007 Frontier-Silicon, which produces 80% of the receiver modules used in DAB radios, has launched a new chipset that adds Wi-Fi Internet radio support to the existing DAB and FM reception capability. Frontier-Silicon claims that this will allow the introduction of "sub-$99" Wi-Fi Internet radios, which at today's exchange rate equates to just £50. Wi-Fi Internet radios have started to become quite popular lately, with the following models being the best-known: Acoustic Energy Wi-Fi Radio, Magicbox The Imp and Bush TR2015. All of these Wi-Fi radios are powered by an Wi-Fi Internet radio module designed by Cambridge-based Reciva. Internet radio should also benefit from the introduction of the BBC iPlayer later this year along with the availability of higher bit rate and hence higher audio quality streams being provided by the UK-based commercial radio stations.
