Premier Christian Radio to Launch on Freeview Later This Year

27th June 2004

With all due respect to Premier Christian Radio, this begs the question 'why on earth aren't the big commercial radio stations joining Freeview'??

Clearly if Premier Christian Radio can afford to go on Freeview then carriage on the platform is not as expensive the commercial radio groups would have use believe. According to the latest RAJAR audience figures Premier Christian Radio has just 196,000 listeners that listen via digital satellite, NTL digital cable, and the Internet. Compare this with listener numbers for some of the bigger commercial radio stations that aren't on Freeview (talkSPORT is planning to go on Freeview):

Station Radio Group Weekly Reach
'000s listeners
Capital FM Capital Radio Group 2,341
Capital Gold Capital Radio Group 1,648
Century FM Capital Radio Group 1,894
Classic FM GWR 6,544
Galaxy Chrysalis 2,582
Heart Chrysalis 3,000
Virgin Virgin Radio Limited 2,486

The above stations are also already on digital satellite and cable, and yet Freeview is in about twice as many homes as cable, so you would have thought the commercial radio groups that own the above stations would want to get their stations onto Freeview.

If you would like to see one of the above stations on Freeview then I'd suggest you email the radio station that you'd like to see go on. Here's some contact web pages for the above stations:
