| Radio stations carried on Swedish DVB-H trial11th August 2006 Radio stations from the national public service broadcaster, Swedish Radio: P1, P2 Music, P3 Star as well as Sisuaradio, are being carried on the Swedish DVB-H trial in Stockholm, which launched (earlier than reported) on the 8th August. DVB-H uses the AAC+ codec, and therefore these radio stations will obviously be using this codec. This news is part of a growing trend towards the use of modern digital broadcasting systems that use the AAC+ codec and away from using DAB, which was designed in the 1980s. Sweden
pulled the plug on using DAB last year, with the government citing
that DAB is far too expensive to run and that Swedish Radio should
investigate the use of modern technologies, and clearly this is one of
the results of those investigations -- another result is that Swedish
Radio is providing its radio stations over the Internet, also using
the AAC+ format.
